In the UK, all four major grocers offer online grocery delivery including Tesco, Sainsbury's, and Morrison's offering the most extensive offerings.

Discount chains such as Lidl and Aldi have boosted their market share, which is putting pressure on the more expensive British grocery store. Waitrose is still ranked first in the most recent Market Force Information survey on consumer perceptions of seven supermarket chains. The survey was conducted with 4,300 people who rated supermarkets based on their assortment as well as layout and cleanliness.

In the course of the coronavirus pandemic Waitrose has added several additional measures to protect customers and staff. Customers are asked to send only one person to shop and wear a mask or scarf. Hand sanitiser stations are situated at the front of every shop. Waitrose offers the Volunteer's Card for customers who self-isolate, allowing family and friends to take orders on behalf of the shopper.
